PriceWaterhouse Coopers Scholarship Recipient

In October, Year 13 student Ryan Richards received the PriceWaterhouse Coopers School Scholarship for 2019.

This was awarded for academic excellence in subjects related to business and accounting. The prize includes $7000 towards university fees, a personal PWC mentor, a summer internship, as well as exciting future career opportunities.

Ryan travelled to the PriceWaterhouseCoopers’ head office in Auckland for an interview, which took over one hour and covered questions relating to his attitude, his resilience, and his future plans.

Seventeen scholarships in total were awarded, with Ryan receiving one of the two awarded in the Bay of Plenty.  Well done, Ryan.

Athletics Update

The New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Championships were held in Wellington over the past weekend and Olivia Cummings and Charo Heijnen both travelled to compete at the event.

Unfortunately due to the weather conditions the Road Race was cancelled which both girls were meant to compete in. Olivia competed in the Senior Girls 3000m finishing 14th overall.

Charo competed in the junior girls 1,500m and 3,000m. The 3000m was a straight final in which Charo ran an incredible Personal Best (PB) time of 10:23:82 finishing 2nd by only .63ms.

Charo also competed in the 3000m where she was 3rd in her heat which put her as the 6th seed going into the finals. Charo must have found some serious energy for this final as she went on to finish 2nd after going in with the 6th best time and was only 2nd by .22ms.

Congratulations to these girls on their results and we wish them the best for any club events they have over the summer.

On behalf of Otumoetai College we would like to say a huge congratulations to all of our Sports athletes of 2019. We have had some outstanding successes this year and look forward to seeing what is to come in 2020. We wish everyone who is competing in any sports event over the summer the best of luck. Please let us know how you go. We wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and Summer.
