We had two teams, one boys and one girls, travel to Auckland last week to compete in the New Zealand Junior Badminton championships. This is the first time we have sent this team away and they all represented the school extremely well. Our boys team finished 5th after a close playoff match and the girls finished 6th overall. These young students train hard and do incredibly well. It is exciting to think about the success that these students have ahead of them for the future.

The North Island Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball champs was hosted by Volleyball BOP this year which meant a home tournament here in Tauranga. The competition was held throughout last week over at the Trust Arena, Mount Maunganui. We had 60 students competing within six  teams. After day one our Junior A Girls were placed in division one, Junior B in division two and year 9 girls in division three. In the boys our Junior A was in division two and our junior B and year nine boys in division three. All teams had some good close games throughout the tournament and also some close loses which most of the time it was great to see our students really fight for points in. It was also awesome to see some of our teams beat teams later in the week that had beat them in pool play. Our girls were standout with their results this year. Another huge congratulations to year nine student Lucy Lloyd, who played in the Junior A Girls (this doesn’t happen very often at all, who was named in the North Island junior tournament team. Our results were as follows:

Junior A Girls - 4th division one
Junior B GIrls - 3rd division two
Year 9 A Girls - 1st division three

Junior A Boys - 9th division two
Year 9 Boys - 7th division three
Junior Mixed boys - 8th division three
