Last week we had 66 Students away in Auckland competing at the North Island Secondary Schools Junior Volleyball Champs.

It was an awesome week and they all played extremely well.

Beach Volleyball:

Ashton Gordon and Jacksyn Smith stayed on from the indoor champs to play in the North Island Secondary Schools Beach Volleyball champs at Mairangi Bay. These boys have had an outstanding beach season thus far and continued that through this tournament. In the horrible weather the boys played extremely well to win the Junior Boys North Island Beach Volleyball Title

Badminton:

We were extremely excited to have a junior boys and junior girls’ team compete at the National Junior Secondary Schools Badminton champs for the first time. The tournament was in Christchurch last week and we had 10 students go away to compete. Both teams did extremely well with some of our students taking points off top NZ age group players.

In close playoff games both teams unfortunately missed out on medals but finished 4th which is an awesome result. We look forward to seeing Badminton grow at the school and these students continue to succeed.

Underwater Hockey:

Otumoetai College students Adriana Lipinski, Amy Mindham, Katelyn Smith, Sam Keene and Sarah Dixon were all part of the Mid North Island U19 Underwater Hockey team playing at the National Tournament in Wellington from Nov 30 -Dec 2.  After a nail biting playoff the girls took out the bronze medal.

Special congratulations goes to Katelyn Smith who was named as part of the NZ U19 Development Squad to compete at the World Games to be held in Sheffield England in August next year.
